Pseudo-quote of the day: Duchovny arrested "for the crime of being unlawfully DILF-y." Priceless. (And NO, DD was not actually arrested, lol. I'll just send you to
the source with strong warnings of
Californication S3
spoilers!)
I've had a pretty good couple of days! (I'm sure this has something to do with being in the middle of a recently unprecedented
three days off work in a row.) How about you guys? This is going to sound incredibly lame and/or dorky, but I always feel some strange sense of accomplishment whenever I do something to take care of my car, major or minor. I've had a lot of issues with DMV in the past few years (due to them never sending me my goddamn registration tags once I pay for them, then giving me the runaround when I come in to get them,
then getting inevitably pulled over for having expired registration tags, then having to go to traffic court and waste a day just to tell a judge "LOOK, I PAID THIS ALREADY, CAN I GO THE FUCK HOME NOW?"), so this time my mother finally decided to fill me in on the fact that, as a AAA member, I can just go in to a AAA office, pay there, and get the tags
right away. I was torn between wanting to leap for joy and strangle her for choosing to say nothing about this option until just now, rather than... oh, three years ago? Anyway, I did that today (two months early, on top of that). Plus, after seeing a movie with my dad, we were standing by my car in the parking lot talking, and I noticed my rear left tire pressure was low. I looked a bit closer, and there was a gigantic screw jammed into it, causing a slow leak, hurrah! But I was near Discount Tire, so I drove in there, they patched it up (and rotated my tires) for free, and in like 20 minutes. Awesome. So yeah, three-inch screw in the tire aside, I had one of those silly "Yay, I took care of my car!" days. Shut up, I love my car.
( And yes, I have seen HBP, so here, have some thinky thoughts! )In other HP-related news, Dan Rad is
still an adorable, overworked, all around good chap. Bless. That first photo is adorable. (Also, that Day In the Life project? One of those dream photography jobs of mine, honestly, and I wouldn't be all that picky about who for. I just love the idea of it. After all, I have an unhealthful adoration of candids more than any other type of portraiture.)
In other movie news, I also saw (crazy!)
The Hurt Locker with my dad today, and it was fantastic. It was actually much less brutally violent than I was anticipating (maybe I've just seen
Saving Private Ryan too many times, if such a thing is possible), but it was still excellent. I'd definitely highly recommend it, so if you can see it where you are, you should!
At the moment, I'm doing my best to not only attend Sunday of Comic-Con (which I have a definite ticket for), but also Saturday (
Chuck panel!) and Friday (HAYAO MIYAZAKI AND JOHN LASSETER IN THE SAME ROOM AT THE SAME TIME, HOLD ME). Wish me luck! Miraculously enough, I was able to get those days off work without much mayhem ensuing at all! Which I'm sure will never happen again. Usually when I ask for a Saturday (or, God forbid, Friday) night off, all hell breaks loose.
To wrap up the rest: I'm still having way too much fun with
Tumblr, dammit. Still watching (and loving)
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia; am now up to "Mac Is a Serial Killer" (ROFL). I also bought the entire series of Chris Carter's
Millennium on a whim (it was on sale!), and though I'm only up to 1x13 so far, I'm
really enjoying it. I'm sitting on at least three memes I'd like to do, still (not even including those damn Top 5s, SORRY! D:), and I'm sure I'll get to them... someday. If you're curious about what I've been reading, thanks to
truemyth's recommendation, I'm now archiving that on
Shelfari, which is perfect considering my job. Most recently, I finished Garth Stein's
The Art of Racing in the Rain, which I adored and can't recommend highly enough. I'm now cackling my way through Richard Russo's
Straight Man. And "Ice" is on Sci-Fi, and Mulder and Scully are pawing hotly at each other's necks. Sounds like a good way to wrap up a good day to me. ;) So what about you all? Is LJ
still feeling a bit dead to anyone else lately? Maybe that's why Tumblr has been easier posting so far.
ETA: Holy crap, are Emmy nominations coming out today already? *crosses all fingers and toes for Duchov, Cranston, Gilligan, Aaron Paul,
Californication and
Breaking Bad*
ETA: Oh, fuck you, Emmys. (Yes, for the record, I am
very excited for
Breaking Bad, Bryan Cranston, AARON PAUL OMG (I totally thought he would be overlooked), and my favorite Cali episode of S2 ("In Utero") getting a nomination, as well as the show for casting. But still... dammit, another snub for DD. It's nothing new or anything, but it's still always disappointing. Fortunately, the lovely Patricia managed to lift my spirits a bit by
uploading her video from the Cali screening back in June, of David and Natascha having wonderful things to say about why they find working together more rewarding than actual nominations or award wins. Rock on, guys.
